Shooting Stars

Did any of you catch the Perseids meteor shower this week? My roommate had never seen a meteor shower, so late Thursday night/early Friday morning I took her to watch. Finding a good spot to stop proved to be a bit tricky because Southern Alberta actually has a crazy amount of light pollution. You can't drive very far without seeing a lit up farm or city lights in the distance.

I was lucky when I lived in Saskatchewan. The Homeland is only ten minutes from town, but the nights are clear and unimpeded by any kind of light. We used to camp out on the trampoline and fight over shooting stars in the summer. That's probably the thing I miss most about living there. The skies are incredible.

Eventually we found a dip in the road which blocked out most of the light so we pulled over. We caught the tail end (Ha! pun!) of the shower, so there weren't as many meteors, but we still saw a good ten or eleven! And I FINALLY figured out how to take sky pictures with my camera! So it was a win all around!
