Bucket List Update!

by - 9:59 AM

As many of you know, I have a VERY deep love for my bucket list. As in, it's probably unhealthy sometimes. I just love the feeling when I finish one and get to put a little check mark beside an entry! It's like... giving yourself a hypothetical high-five.

A few days ago, I updated the "Bucket List" tab on this blog. I thought today I would list some of my favourite bucket list entries that I've checked off and the stories behind them.

#22. Ride on a Gondola
Nope, not the kind on a mountain slope. The legit Italian kind of gondola. In grade 11, I went on a school trip to France and Italy, and we visited Venice. And obviously Venice = dirty water gondolas. So a few of my friends and I went on a gondola ride. Our gondolier was awesome. He was super cheerful and he even sang to us in Italian! Everything was perfect... and then he got into a fight with another guy on a boat. We have NO idea what he was yelling, but the faces on the local Venetians kind of hinted that the conversation had soured. Then he slapped his stick thingy down hard and got half our group wet. I'm pretty sure one of the moms has this on video somewhere... It was awesome.

#41. See the Mona Lisa
Biggest disappointment of my life. Well, maybe not, but still. The Mona Lisa is actually not much bigger than a regular piece of printer paper. They have it on its own wall, but you can't even get close to it because there is ALWAYS a huge crowd of Asian tourists with cameras swarmed around the thing like a horde of killer bees. I much prefered the mummy exhibit personally....

#63. Try Sushi
The first time I tried real sushi was actually last year! My english family (four of us that had multiple english classes together all year) and I went as a kind of "End of the year hurrah". It was also Ben's first time eating real sushi. In fact I think there's a video which I would probably get in trouble for posting... Yep. Found it!

Please love the awesome, totally not Japanese, saxophone mood music in the background.  Despite that, I actually quite enjoyed the sushi, until I realized it looked like Nemo and then I felt guilty....

#82. Bail out of a moving vehicle
We were going to be late for choir, what can I say?

#124. Make posters for a lost sandwich
During our senior year of high school, my friend Shelby (not to be confused with Zygote Shelby) and I had a brilliant idea. And I think it was either the last or second last week of classes that we went ahead and did it. We printed off several posters, you know the kind you see for a lost pet? Except instead of a picture of a fluffy dog, this one had a picture of a grilled cheese sandwich. Underneath we explained that this was Larry, and that he was an important part of our family and all we wanted was to be reunited with him again.
Very sad.
Here comes the best part. We put our friend Graeme's cell number on the little cut-off strips on the bottom of the poster. And THEN... We posted several of these all over the school. The majority of them in the middle years wing. He got a lot of phone calls and texts that day... We got a lot of glares.
