Fences

I have a problem you guys. I'm seriously addicted to frozen applesauce cups... I've finished three already and I just BARELY bought them! Anyways...

I painted a fence with Hawna yesterday. (Well, sort of... We just primed it.) Cross off another life experience!
Here are some things I learned:
1. I was not born to be a fence painter.
2. I am, however, great at getting paint on myself.

3. Before you paint a fence you have to put primer on. I don't know much about paint, but from what I've gathered, primer helps the paint stay on better, and prevents the paint from seeping through the wood.

The fence looked kinda lame when we got there. The paint was peeling, and parts of it were completely bare. It was a sad little fence. Our job was to take the primer, and cover all the bald, rough spots. To get in the nooks and crannies, and make sure everything was covered. To prepare the fence to look AWESOME. This was not a fun process. (For me at least.) It didn't smell good, was super messy, and took a loooooong time.  But I know that fence is going to look awesome when it's finished.

Maybe we're like fences too. I mean, we might be sturdy, and good at doing our job of keeping out small children and protecting flowerbeds from wind, but sometimes Heavenly Father has other things in mind for us. We often only see ourselves as plain old fences, but Heavenly Father sees beyond that. He sees us as the finished product- a beautifully painted, clean white fence. Before we can become that beautiful white fence though, we have to go through the priming.
The past couple weeks have been pretty hard. But I think they've been a kind of "primer" for me. I've been learning lots and figuring important things out, and while it's a constant struggle and some days I want to sob quietly into my pillow and sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", I know it's a good struggle and it will be worth it.
(And yes, I DID just write a blog post about fences. Sue me. Haha.)
