Birthday 2011: Surprise Party!

by - 10:17 AM

Y'all better sit down for the birthday overhaul. Not that I can imagine anyone walking around with a computer trying to read this...
On Saturday, I went to Ben's house because we were going to have a surprise birthday party for our dear friend Lizzy, whose birthday happens to be the day after mine. So we decorated the house....
...and made Lizzy's birthday cake! It was supposed to look like a longboard, because even though sometimes Lizzy gets some wicked battle wounds, she loves her some longboarding.
Apparently it looked more like an upside-down car wreck.
By the time the cake was done, I hurried and cleaned up my stuff and ran to catch the bus. The plan was, I would go over to Lizzy's house, and because she has been home for a few weeks and I haven't seen her, I would suggest that we go to Starbucks for a visit. However, on the way to Starbucks, I would remember that I had to go to Ben's house to "pick up scones" (Which, by the way Mr. Biscuits, you still owe me. lol.) and we would go and all her friends would be there and she would wonderfully surprised.

Well I finally got to Lizzy's house two buses later, and she had her sister's car so we drove. She mentioned something about how Ben had told her not to let me forget to "pick up some scones" so we would go do that first. We pulled up into the driveway, and Ben answered the door and led us into the kitchen where a dozen people yelled "SURPRISE!". Lizzy's face was awesome.

But they didn't just yell surprise for Lizzy. While I had been gone, MORE decorations had been put up, in both of our favourite colours, including a gigantic homemade banner that read, "Happy Birthday Chantelle and Lizzy!".
The living room was FILLED with balloons, one of the only things I requested this year for my birthday.
And next to Lizzy's cake on the counter was a tray of cupcakes. For me.
It was a DOUBLE surprise birthday party!
Apparently it had been in the works for over three weeks! All of Lizzy's friends were invited, the entire Women's Chorus had been invited, and all of MY friends and roommates had been invited too! Not everybody could come, but it was still a huge surprise and we had so much fun. :)
I would like to take this opportunity to point out again that ALL of the decorations (and the cakes) were in Lizzy's and my favourite colours (red and purple, blue and green).
This cupcake looked like a cyclops so I ate it. Ha.
Also, people enjoyed moving the letter cupcakes around to spell fun things. It was entertaining.
(My name wouldn't fit on cupcakes. So it's on a streamer.)
Then we made an emergency Starbucks trip to take cupcakes to Lizzy's sister who works there because she has the same birthday as me.
Front seat:
 Back seat!
They gave us free drinks at Starbucks because:
1) They knew us
2) It's our birfdays
3) They're quitting in a couple weeks anyway and don't really care
Also we got to educate Elizabeth that Starbucks is not all coffee! Yay!
Also, best car ride home goes to that night. We may have sang the Glee version of Friday at the top of our lungs. And had conversations like this when we saw some Mormon missionaries walking by:
Ben: Hey look! There's two guys in suits with backpacks! Do you guys know them?
Chantelle: Shut up Ben!
Elizabeth: Hey! I TOTALLY know those guys!
Hahaha. Oh Elizabeth... Proving Mormon stereotypes right...

When we got back, it was presents time! This was my present for Lizzy. I had no wrapping paper, so I improvised... With the Ikea 2008 Collection....
 Lizzy's new sunnies from Ben!
After presents came a rip-roaring game of Quelf! If you've never played Quelf, it's basically like Cranium, but SUPER random and silly.
My favourite part was when I wasn't allowed to use my arms for a bit, then got challenged to a paper airplane making/throwing contest, and I did it. With my feet. And my plane flew further! It was funny.
Poor Elizabeth had to have tin foil wrapped around her hand. Sick.
No one has ever thrown me a party before and I had SO much fun! A great big thanks to everyone who was in on it! Especially Ben. He had everything planned so that I thought I was planning Lizzy's party, and Lizzy thought she was planning my party, AND managed to keep it a secret from both of us for three weeks. So if you see him, give him a high five. Or a car.
