Weekend Music: The Songs of My Childhood

by - 3:16 PM

Um, so... As a child I was a little strange.. Hence the eclectic collection you see here. Yes, I DID actually listen to all of these. And sing all the words.

1. I Just Can't Wait to Be King- from the movie The Lion King
We used to dance to this on playdates. I actually still have my old Lion King cassette tape!

2. Mamma Mia- ABBA
I will always love this band. Always.

3. Journey to the Past- from the movie Anastasia
Many a Saturday was spent watching this movie and pretending my stuffed cat was Pookah.

4. Man! I Feel Like a Woman- Shania Twain
I've never really told anyone this before, but when I was in kindergarten and grade one I was obsessed with Shania Twain. I got her CD for my birthday and it was the best day of my life. Many a concert was thrown in my kitchen for adult visitors to our house, wooden spoon microphone, stage... All I can say is that I'm glad we didn't own a video camera then.

5. The Boys and Girls of Rock and Roll- from the movie The Chipmunk Adventure
Every trip to Grandma Edward's house included this movie. Well, that or Flinstones.

6. Silhouettes- The Nylons
I really liked when Momma Froc would put this CD on. I like the whole CD, but this song was one of my favourites because I thought "silhouette" was an awesome word, and it was kind of the only lyric in the song I knew... haha.

Fortunately, my tastes have evolved somewhat since then, although I must admit I still love ABBA an awful awful LOT. And I still like the Nylons... Okay, maybe my tastes haven't changed THAT much.

Except for Shania.
