WEEKEEEEEEND.

Well, maybe for you. I'll be spending most of mine in the theatre at the university. I'm set designer for a student-run show, and our play opens this coming Thursday. And that means TECH WEEK. Woof. Lots of hours painting, moving sets, rehearsals, early mornings, and late nights. In honour of my imprisonment in the Fine Arts Building, I present to you some of my favourite musical theatre songs. Happy 2017!

Some of these I'm really excited for. Like my big trip (!!!) to Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina this spring. Also graduating university. I guess that's kind of exciting. (weeps with ecstatic relief)

My biggest project this year is a doozy. I'm going one whole year with no sugar. None. No sugar, no honey, no artificial sweeteners, nothing. So far it's been going alright! I went a couple weeks in December with no sugar so it hasn't been that big of a shock to my system.

Project No Sugar is proving to be difficult in other ways. For starters, I can't really eat at restaurants. Or friends' houses. Or church functions. There's just way to much sugar in stuff and no way to know about it. I think that might be the hardest part. So many of our church activities revolve around food...

Another thing that's challenging is that it takes a MILLION years to go grocery shopping because you have to read every. single. label. And sugar has something like 61 different names it goes by. Woof. Basically every trip to the store looks like this:

This summer I visited so many places- beaches, mountains, prairies, forests, oceans, cities- and not one of them is as comforting or familiar as this view. Just west of this spot is my grandparents' house and the garden I grew up playing in. To the south are fields and the forests we cut our Christmas trees from. And north of where I'm standing is a house that is bursting at the seams with love.

It's funny how when you're busy, you do so many things and interact with so many people, and yet, being busy actually makes you feel lonelier. There are interactions yes, but no real connection. I miss having a connection to something. And to someone. How I feel at this stage in my life is a lot like this picture. Everyone around me seems to be moving so quickly. My friends and family are getting married, graduating, having babies, leaving on missions, and getting real jobs. I'm so busy, but it feels like I'm not really doing anything. More often, it feels like I'm just a moment stuck in time.

Well hello! School is back in swing, and things are busy as ever. Hopefully this is my last full year (KNOCK ON ALL THE WOOD), so I'm trying to cram as much in as possible. If you don't see me, I'm not dead, I'm just either in a studio somewhere meticulously crafting a scale model of a wooden floor, or at work, or laying in bed questioning my life choices.
